On S. Fess on the west side of the street, between 2nd and Hunter, between the sidewalk and the curb, you fill find the scene as shown in the attached photo. It appears a water meter lid is missing and there are some pieces that look askew. This is a large, deep hole that could seriously injure someone who steps into it.

I would like to thank the city of Bloomington for their professional assistance in helping me avoid a significant problem at my home during the recent snap of epic cold weather.
It all began with frozen water pipes when I failed to keep a small stream of water running in my city townhouse; there was no excuse on my part for the mistake. To make matters worse, I needed to catch a flight out of town later that day.
This is where the city came to the rescue.
I quickly and easily found the city utility web site and created a work ticket from the easy to follow instructions. Literally within minutes, a highly trained and cordial city employee called me and walked me through the steps I needed to take to reduce any potential damage to my water pipes. Only minutes later, a two person team arrived and worked in zero degree weather and quickly turned off the water at the meter.
They went so far as to reassure me that they would be back soon after I got back to town and to just give them a call. Despite the near zero temperature, they never once complained about the outdoor working conditions. I was impressed.
When I got back to town, I created another work ticket, and the customer service process repeated itself, leading to a perfect resolution to the problem.
I was very impressed with the entire process - a total Rock Star performance from everyone on the city team.

Dear Bloomington water department.,
Last week my pipes froze your team came to my home promptly and turned off the water right after calling for an emergency shut off at the meter.
I am back to town and would like to have your team come back to my home and turn the water back on at the meter.
Please let me know if this can happen this afternoon, I would like to be at the house when the water is turned back on so that I can deal with any water issues if I have a broken pipe.
Thank you!
