There is a section of sidewalk completely gone and is gravel. I've noticed it for years. It is unsafe for runners and cyclists. In addition, the entire stretch of sidewalk in between Washington and Walnut on the NORTH side (by the car repair place) is in need of replacement. I use this stretch to get to the Bline all the time, and with little cyclists, and as a runner, this cracked sidewalk is dangerous. Please replace!
Home is on double lot, was in tough shape inside and out; took two years to sell due to condition (initial asking 450,000 sold at 170,600) but finally sold a few months ago. Seller moved out; Neighbors have no info on who bought it but assume investors who will tear down to build 2 new homes. We are writing on behalf of all surrounding neighbors. City did arrange for lawn to finally be mowed (thank you!) but there are other more serious issues: 1. A backyard in ground pool no longer has required fencing in yard and pool cover has come off, water is green/moldy. No fencing hazard for wandering children playing, animals but we are concerned about mosquitoes, etc. 2. All sorts of large pieces of siding are flapping all day long in the wind. In storms the sound can be heard houses away and we all are waiting for the day they rip off and come flying down! 3. A fox family has nested in home - literally underneath 1010 from several entries all around (may be inside?) There are five in total (mom with 4 kits - all now full size) They play around pool area and romp in yard which is lovely to watch but now when it means they are leaving rabbit, bird, animal carcasses all over this property and in our yards. Wildlife told us that any neighbor can pay for trapping them as they won't move them. Seriously - all of us?! Fox family are now going after neighborhood cats, and having growling matches with dogs being walked, especially in the evening. Again, they are absolutely beautiful to watch but not the right habitat. Our daily lives are affected by their habitat next door. No owner name to contact for any of us to ask them to clean up carcasses which also now cause more insect issues - ticks, fleas, mosquito, flies in addition to moldy pool water. Some of us have started piling carcasses up in one place on property. The irony here is that the original owner was Bruce Jennings ... who worked in HAND Dept. for many years before passing away. :-( Thanks for anything you can do. Suggestion to add: New owners would be smart to reach out to all on the street to introduce themselves and help us learn more about their plans. We have lived here forty years; this block is a tight knit, close group of caring neighbors who are reasonable and look forward to new plans for 1010! Thank you. It appears that the City's 2025 pool waiver eligibility policy has changed. In past years, waiver eligibility has been based solely on qualifying household income. Now, additional criteria has been added to also require a minor living in the household. Please consider returning to the sole criteria based on household income. It would be much more equitable to allow low-income adults to have access to city pools as well, even if they do not have children. Especially at a time with deep cuts to many federal resources for low-income people, local supports are more important than ever.
Caller to HAND reported that overwhelming amount of trash in the backyard, the garage door is open with garbage in it and there is a gas can amongst the garbage in yard.
From Reddit Bloomington: Fiber cables damaging sewer lines We live right next to Bryan Park. About a week ago our toilet backed up, and after multiple visits from our (very honest and reasonable) plumber, we discovered that the city's fiber optic internet contractor had carelessly run an optic cable directly through our sewer line. This caused a ton of debris to get into our drain pipe and completely clog the pipe, necessitating a $10k repair. I called the city and apparently, this is happening to people all over town. (The person in the utilities office said I was the third person to call today with this exact problem, and our plumber said that this contractor got thrown out of Carmel for damaging so many sewer lines).
There is an abandoned vehicle parked in the street at 908 S. Washington St. It is a blue Volkswagen Tiguan with flat tires and expired plates.
This picture was taken on 10/10 at 12:24 AM at the corner of Kirkwood/Dunn. The truck is called, "Smoked," and I do not see them as a registered truck on the list. I talked, "Ken," who said he and his wife own the truck and showed me a valid handicapped permit. I didn't get Ken's contact info or license plate.
